While at Vectorform, we were tasked to create a 3D-augmented reality brand experience for the all-new plug-in hybrid, BMW i8 using Google Glass. The concept revolved around 5 touchpoints that would display unique content about the features. My role involved being the lead UI and UX designer focusing on creating the user journey map, information architecture, wireframes, and screen designs. The experience has won a Site of the Day award from the FWA.
Since Google Glass was relatively new at the time, we had to help the client visualize and understand the concept we were proposing. User Journey story boards were created to help guide them through the experience at each touchpoint. BMW wanted to focus on 5 features which are Laser Light, Carbon Frame, Interior Panorama, Life Drive, and Airflow.
At each location for the experience, there were representatives from BMW to help assist users with the tour. The experience has a companion application used to sync Google Glass as well as to fire off commands in the event something went wrong.
The BMW i8 experience was launched at the three major airports in Germany as well as at the BMW world headquarters. The experience on average held users to almost 10 minutes of usage time.
